Aizawl: Mizoram’s apex student body, Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), has appealed to Governor VK Singh to take steps to ensure that the Centre releases post-matric scholarship installment to over 4,000 students at the earliest.
The MZP stated that the delays have created financial hardships for over 4,000 tribal students who are yet to receive their benefits.
In a letter sent to the Governor, the student body said that the 4th and final installment of post-matric tribal scholarship for the 2023-24 academic session is yet to be disbursed to thousands of eligible students from Mizoram.
The MZP stated that while over 31,000 students applied for the 2023–24 post-matric tribal scholarship, around 26,909 students have already received the funds.
However, 4,027 students—many of whom are enrolled in technical and professional courses outside the state—are still awaiting their final instalment, the letter said.
MZP has urged the Governor to press the Ministry of Tribal Affairs to expedite the disbursement process, emphasizing the urgency needed to alleviate the students’ educational challenges.
The students’ body claimed that students from other Northeastern states have already received their full scholarship instalments.

The organisation said that the delay in the payment has adversely affected the academic progress and financial stability of the students, especially those studying in high-cost urban institutions.
