Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced that the state is actively implementing Vision 2036, a strategic initiative to nurture young athletes and prepare them to represent India in the 2036 Olympic Games.
Addressing the closing ceremony of the Olympic Day Run at Lammual on Monday, the Chief Minister emphasized the state’s commitment to fostering sports talent.
“So far, Mizoram has produced only two Olympians. We believe many Mizo youths have the potential to represent India in future Olympics. Vision 2036 is a step in that direction. We have begun training youths to ensure they can compete at the highest level,” Lalduhoma said.
He also highlighted the unifying power of sports in promoting harmony and brotherhood among communities.
The event, organised by the Mizoram Olympic Association, was attended by Sports Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar.
The Vision 2036 initiative aligns with the state’s Empowering Mizoram Sports (EMS) programme, launched earlier this year under the flagship ‘Bana Kaih’ scheme.
The EMS programme aims to establish coaching and talent development centres across Mizoram, focusing on young athletes aged 8 to 15.

Basic training and skill development are integral to the program, laying the groundwork for long-term athletic excellence.
The state government has allocated Rs. 2.5 crore for the programme’s implementation, emphasising its dedication to identifying and grooming talent from an early age.
Mizoram’s proactive approach seeks to solidify its place on the national and international sports stage, with Vision 2036 serving as a cornerstone of this ambition.
