Kohima: Mizoram has launched the first-ever Health ATMs, which allow people to check their key health metrics without needing to visit a doctor.
The ATMs were launched on Monday (August 18) at Civil Hospital Lunglei and Primary Health Centre (PHC) Lungsen under the Lunglei District Administration’s “Healthy Lunglei Initiative”.
The ATMs, which are powered by Internet of Things (IoT) technology, offer free diagnostic tests for 35 parameters. Services include blood pressure checks, blood sugar monitoring, BMI calculation, ECG, lipid profiling, vision and hearing assessments, and mental health screenings for depression and anxiety. The results are generated instantly and sent to users’ mobile phones, creating a digital health record at no cost.
Attending the event as the chief guest, Mizoram Health & Family Welfare Minister Lalrinpuii stated that these are the first Health ATMs to be launched in the state.
She praised the ongoing progress of the Healthy Lunglei District Campaign, which began in June 2024 and has since enhanced preventive healthcare delivery through community engagement, health screenings, and awareness drives.
She emphasised that these IoT-enabled kiosks will generate digital health records for users, enabling timely follow-up and reducing the urban-rural gap in healthcare access by saving time and costs for patients.
She also acknowledged the Lunglei Deputy Commissioner’s office for spearheading holistic public health programmes such as Project LEAP, which supports persons with disabilities, and Project BLOOM, focused on maternal and child health improvements in the Lungsen Aspirational Block.
The Health ATM initiative was formalised through a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Manav Vikas Sanstha (MVS India), the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Lunglei, and ABCI Infrastructures Pvt. Ltd.
The minister thanked CSR partners MVS India, ABCI Infrastructures Pvt. Ltd, and BRN for their contributions, calling the Health ATM project a powerful example of collaboration between government, private sector, and civil society.
The ABCI and BRN, under the agreement, have provided funding for the procurement and maintenance of the kiosks through their CSR programme. MVS India is handling installation, training, and technical support, while the DC’s office is responsible for administrative facilitation and long-term sustainability.
