Aizawl: The Mizoram government is planning an ambitious ropeway and cable car project to connect the state capital Aizawl with Sairang railway station and Lengpui airport.
This project is envisioned to significantly boost tourism in the region while improving connectivity within the region.
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma recently chaired a meeting to discuss the feasibility of the Aizawl-Sairang-Lengpui ropeway project.
The proposed ropeway project is designed to serve a dual purpose: promoting tourism and improving public transportation between the state capital and Lengpui, home to Mizoram’s only airport.
The project is being evaluated for execution either through the state’s tourism department or under the Aizawl Sustainable Urban Transport Project (ASUTP).
The ASUTP is currently being implemented by the Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation (UD&PA) department through an externally aided programme.
The meeting saw the participation of key officials, including Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation Minister K Sapdanga, Tourism Minister Lalrinpuii, adviser to the Chief Minister (finance) TBC Lalvenchhunga, and other senior officials.

Before making a final decision on implementing the project, the government will conduct a thorough evaluation of its technical and financial feasibility.
The project aligns with the state’s strategic vision of modernizing urban transport while leveraging its natural beauty to attract a significant influx of tourists.
