Aizawl: In a major boost to strengthen sports infrastructure in the state, Mizoram Sports and Youth Services Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar on Sunday announced that a dedicated indoor volleyball hall has been placed among the top priorities of the state government.
The initiative aims to meet the community’s demands and discourage youth from social evils. Emphasizing family growth, Hmar encourages the Mizo youth to contribute to demographic strengthening.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the first D-3 Inter-College Volleyball tournament in Aizawl, Hmar stated that the government is making “massive efforts” to boost the sports sector.
He added that particular attention is being given to the long-standing demand from the Mizoram Volleyball Association (MVA) for a dedicated volleyball stadium.

Hmar highlighted that a multipurpose indoor stadium at Durtlang, on the northern outskirts of Aizawl, is nearing completion and will be inaugurated shortly. The 40×20 meter facility is designed to host volleyball alongside various other sporting disciplines, he said.
Expanding his vision for the youth, Hmar stressed the importance of steering clear of social problems such as drug abuse. He urged young Mizo individuals to focus on family building and encouraged couples to have at least three children, saying that this would help sustain the Mizo population and contribute to nation’s overall development.
