Aizawl: Mizoram Governor General (Retired) Vijay Kumar Singh has urged the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL) to expedite the widening work of National Highway (NH)-306.
The NH-306, which is considered the state’s lifeline linking Assam, was badly damaged by the monsoon, triggering a series of protests by truckers last year.
The governor on Saturday visited the Kolasib district, which shares a border with Assam.
During a meeting with officials, local leaders and representatives of organisations in Kolasib, Singh voiced concerns that the sluggish progress of national highway repairs in Kolasib district is causing considerable hardship for the public.
Noting that compensation and forest clearance issues for the national highway widening have been largely resolved, the Governor urged the NHIDCL, which is entrusted with the widening task, to expedite work, citing the state’s limited favourable working season.
The NH-306, a portion of which, particularly the Aizawl- Kawnpui sector, is named NH-6, is the primary lifeline of the state linking Assam’s Silchar.

He appreciated the efforts made by enforcement agencies, particularly in dealing with drug trafficking and drug abuse.
Singh stressed the importance of effectively implementing central government welfare schemes.
