Aizawl: Mizoram Governor General Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd) on Monday inaugurated the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) ‘Financial Literacy Week 2025’ at Mizoram Rural Bank (MRB) Head Office in Aizawl.

To spread financial literacy, the governor also launched the Financial Literacy Messages Booklets, which will be distributed to 513 libraries across Mizoram.

This year, the Financial Literacy Week theme is ‘Financial Literacy – Women’s Prosperity’.

Governor Gen (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh commended RBI for observing Financial Literacy Week and choosing a theme in line with the Vikshit Bharat 2047.

Singh hailed this year’s theme which focuses on empowering women. “The selected theme for action is a clear vision of empowering our women from diverse backgrounds,” he said.

The Governor also highlighted various steps taken by the central government for credit guarantee, social security, and entrepreneurship.

He urged all the banks and financial institutions in the state to ensure that every person of the state is brought under the ambit of a formal financial system.

He added, “All the banks and financial institutions must ensure that all eligible persons can avail full benefits of financial inclusion and social security schemes along with the credit guarantee systems.”

In his keynote address, T. Lhungdim, General Manager and Officer-In-Charge of RBI Aizawl, said that the objective behind observing Financial Literacy Week is to spread awareness among people about key financial topics through focused campaigns.

He also said that RBI would be undertaking a centralized mass media campaign during this week to broadcast essential financial awareness messages on the theme.

As part of the initiative, T. Lhungdim flagged off the Financial Literacy Van, which will travel across five districts—Aizawl, Serchhip, Lunglei, Hnahtial, and Saitual— during the week.

The van will spread awareness of Financial Literacy Week’s themes and sub-themes, bringing essential financial knowledge directly to the local communities at their doorstep.
