Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma called on Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi on Monday to discuss key railway projects and service improvements for the state, an official statement said.
During the meeting, Lalduhoma highlighted the need to finalise the alignment of the proposed Sairang–Thenzawl railway line to ensure smooth implementation of the Thenzawl Peace City master plan. In response, Vaishnaw assured that the alignment review would be completed by February 2026.
The chief minister also requested rescheduling of train services between Sairang–Guwahati and Sairang–Kolkata so that trains reach Sairang earlier than the current timings, improving convenience for passengers. Vaishnaw agreed to adjust the schedules accordingly.
Raising concerns over the long travel time to the national capital, Lalduhoma pointed out that the Rajdhani Express takes 42 hours and 20 minutes to reach New Delhi from Sairang near Aizawl. He urged the ministry to reduce the travel duration and increase the train’s frequency from once a week to twice. Vaishnaw agreed to shorten the journey by around four hours and said he would examine the proposal to increase frequency in consultation with officials.
The chief minister also proposed integrating Mizoram’s Inner Line Permit (ILP) portal with the IRCTC ticketing platform to make travel procedures easier for visitors. The railway minister assured that the matter would be examined and appropriate action would be taken.
