AIZAWL: In a move towards fostering transparency and curbing corruption, the Mizoram government has granted approval for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe state offenses.
The decision was formalised through a gazette notification issued on December 28, invoking the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act of 1948.
Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, taking to a social media platform, declared, “The Government of Mizoram grants consent for a CBI investigation of offenses in the state of Mizoram. Our government is resolute in eliminating corruption for the welfare of our citizens.”
The newly elected Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) government’s move aligns with chief Lalduhoma’s commitment to addressing corruption, as outlined in his inaugural press briefing on December 10.

In his first public statement after assuming office on December 9, the Chief Minister delineated the core priorities of his administration, with a strong emphasis on combating corruption.
Lalduhoma had revealed a multifaceted approach to promote transparency, including the installation of complaint and suggestion boxes across all government departments.
Additionally, he had highlighted plans to reinforce the Lokayukta—a governmental ombudsman—to act as a watchdog against corruption.
Notably, Chief Minister Lalduhoma had also mentioned that corruption cases from the previous government would undergo a thorough investigation by the CBI
In his commitment to ensuring a more conducive environment for government officials and employees, Lalduhoma had also addressed concerns of limited freedom during the previous regime.
Pledging to provide them with a voice within the bounds of their administrative duties, the Chief Minister had sought to create an atmosphere of openness and collaboration.
