Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Tuesday (September 23) chaired a review meeting with officials of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) at the Chief Minister’s Conference Hall, in the presence of PWD Minister Vanlalhlana and senior officials from the PWD, Power & Electricity Department, and NHIDCL.
Voicing concern over the poor condition of several national highways, Lalduhoma noted widespread potholes and surface damage across many stretches and urged NHIDCL to carry out timely and proper maintenance during the Contractor Liability Period.
The Chief Minister further emphasized that once new bypasses are built, the old town roads should be formally handed over to the State PWD for maintenance.
He also underscored the importance of the Aizawl–Vairengte highway, calling it the “lifeline of Mizoram,” and urged NHIDCL to give it top priority.
Highlighting the challenge of road durability in a state prone to heavy rainfall and prolonged monsoons, Lalduhoma suggested adopting rigid pavement technology.
NHIDCL informed him that the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has already instructed officials to review the proposal, to which the Chief Minister pressed for speedy implementation.
The chief minister also expressed concern over the collapse of the Thingfala Mamte ‘T’ Baptist Church, allegedly linked to road-cutting works by NHIDCL.
