Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma inaugurated the Thenzawl Peace City Celebration at Thenzawl Bazar Veng on Monday (September 1).
The event was jointly organized by the Thenzawl Joint Village Council, local NGOs, and the community members.
Thenzawl, a bustling town under Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma’s Serchhip constituency, celebrated its selection as the site of Mizoram’s first Peace City.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Lalduhoma stressed the importance of developing modern, well-planned towns in Mizoram to fulfill the aspirations of its citizens. He highlighted Thenzawl’s strategic location and its potential for orderly growth, affirming that the town is perfectly positioned to be the state’s first modern planned city.
“Thenzawl Planned City” is not intended to compete with Aizawl but to provide Mizoram with a peaceful, well-organised and future-ready modern city,” the chief minister said.
Reflecting on his political career, which began as an IPS officer and included the distinction of being the first Member of Parliament disqualified under the Anti-Defection Law, the Chief Minister underscored the profound significance of launching a Peace City, especially given Mizoram’s journey toward peace since 1986. He also took a moment to recall his previous discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi concerning the development of the state.
Lalnunthara, President of Vantawng Group YMA, representing the people of Thenzawl, expressed gratitude to CM Lalduhoma for his vision and leadership, stating that the community is proud to host Mizoram’s first planned city.
Supply minister Lalchhanzova, a native of Thenzawl, said the aspiration to build a township in the area has been a long-cherished dream and that the celebration signalled its beginning.
