Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Friday praised the Young Mizo Association (YMA), describing it as a vital institution that unites the Mizo people and preserves their cultural identity.
Speaking at the 50th anniversary celebration of the YMA’s Buanpui branch in Serchhip district, Lalduhoma urged the younger generation to uphold Tlawmngaina — the traditional Mizo code of ethics that embodies selfless service, respect for elders, and compassion for the needy.
“We should not remain idle in preserving and promoting our culture and tradition. The YMA should also play a decisive role in protecting our language, music and songs, traditional handicraft, historical sites and history,” he said.
The Chief Minister cautioned that the YMA must not overlook the importance of social life, warning that moral decline in society could destroy the Mizo community despite progress in technology and the economy.

The influential YMA, originally called Young Lushai Association, was established by the Welsh missionaries in 1935.
The Association is administered by a central committee, and has five sub-headquarters, 49 groups and 805 branches across Mizoram, and parts of Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura.
