Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma has stated that Mizoram’s proximity to the “Golden Triangle,” a notorious drug-producing region in Southeast Asia, has made the state a primary route for drugs coming from Myanmar.

Lalduhoma stated this while flagging off the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drugs Free India Campaign), the Mizoram State Level and Aizawl District Level programmes, organised in Aizawl on Wednesday, featuring a “Rally – Fight Against Drugs” with the participation of over 600 students from various schools and colleges.

During the event, Lalduhoma stressed that drugs are detrimental to society and must be completely eliminated. He urged communities to be vigilant and united against drug abuse to protect Mizo society from such harmful influences.

“The Golden Triangle’s geographical closeness to Mizoram is a major factor in the frequent inflow of drugs into the state,” Lalduhoma said.

The Golden Triangle refers to a mountainous zone spanning northeastern Myanmar, northwestern Thailand, and northern Laos, infamous for large-scale drug manufacturing.

He encouraged young people to abstain entirely from drugs, warning that even occasional use is the first step towards addiction. For those already struggling with addiction, he called on them to bravely seek recovery and rebuild their lives.

The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drugs Free India Campaign) is currently being implemented in 372 districts across India, including all districts in Mizoram. The campaign focuses primarily on creating awareness about the harmful effects of drug use and preventing first-time users from starting. The rally in Aizawl was organised as part of the 5th anniversary of the campaign.
