Aizawl: Twelve people were apprehended in Mizoram’s Aizawl for celebrating New Year with firecrackers, police said on Wednesday.
The Mizoram police registered a total of 13 cases in various police stations in the state capital in connection with the use of fireworks.
The state government banned firecrackers, sky lanterns, and all other pyrotechnic materials in an effort to maintain a pollution-free celebration.
Fireworks were used in Aizawl to celebrate the New Year, disregarding the ban and repeated appeals from community leaders.
However, the bursting of firecrackers in the state capital was almost negligible as compared to the previous year, the officer said.
Meanwhile, New Year was celebrated across Mizoram with enthusiasm and festive fervour.
Traditional worship services, prayers, and congregational singing were held in churches across the state to mark the New Year.
