AIZAWL: In a bid to provide healthcare accessibility to veterans and their families in Mizoram, the Ministry of Defence signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the State Referral Hospital/Zoram Medical College in Aizawl.
Aimed at benefitting the beneficiaries of Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) in the state, the recently signed MoA will allow ex-servicemen and their dependents in Mizoram to receive cashless and capless multi-specialty and super-specialty treatment at the medical college in Aizawl.
This hospital will now be empanelled under the ECHS scheme, enabling seamless access to advanced healthcare services.
The agreement was formally inked in a recent ceremony attended by Colonel Senthil Kumar S, Director of Regional Centre, ECHS Guwahati, representing Headquarters Eastern Command and Headquarters 101 Area, Shillong, and Dr John Zohmingthanga, Director and Medical Superintendent of State Referral Hospital/Zoram Medical College.
With this development, veterans, including Assam Rifles pensioners, who have been referred from the ECHS Polyclinic in Aizawl and Lunglei, will have the convenience of receiving multi-specialty and super-specialty care at the State Referral Hospital/Zoram Medical College, eliminating the need to travel to distant cities such as Guwahati or Kolkata for specialized medical treatments.
In Mizoram, ECHS services are currently offered through two ECHS Polyclinics, namely ECHS Polyclinic, Aizawl, and ECHS Polyclinic, Lunglei, operated under the supervision of Station Headquarters, Aizawl.
The ECHS, launched on April 1, 2003, by the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, Ministry of Defence, is a flagship scheme designed to provide quality healthcare services to Ex-Servicemen and their dependents across the country. This initiative has established a network of ECHS Polyclinics, Armed Forces medical facilities, and private empanelled or government hospitals to cater to the healthcare needs of these beneficiaries.
In a region known for its challenging terrain and connectivity issues, this MoA is expected to make a significant difference in the lives of ex-servicemen and their dependents.
