AIZAWL: In a successful operation against drug trafficking, Assam Rifles and Champhai Police seized 2.163 kg of Methamphetamine in Champhai district.
The joint operation, conducted at the Melbuk Road junction on Monday, resulted in the seizure of the contraband estimated to be worth a staggering Rs. 6.489 crores.
The operation resulted in the arrest of Rohmingthanga (20), a resident of Zokhawthar village, and the confiscation of a vehicle (bearing registration No MZ 08 1627), according to local press reports.
Both the individual and the vehicle have been transferred to the custody of the Police Department in Zokhawthar for further legal proceedings.
This latest seizure highlights the magnitude of challenge posed by drug smuggling in the state, particularly the rampant trafficking of Methamphetamine.
Alarmingly, this incident marks the third such seizure within a mere 16-day period, highlighting the scale of the problem confronting law enforcement authorities.
In a previous operation on April 27, Assam Rifles, in another joint operation with the Special Narcotics Police Station, CID (Crime), Aizawl, seized a cache of 20,000 Methamphetamine tablets, weighing 1.908 kg from Mualpuikawn, Salem Veng K-Section, Aizawl.
The operation had led to the seizure of meth tablets worth a staggering Rs. 6.6 crores.
Similarly, on April 22, a joint operation conducted by Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police resulted in the confiscation of 61 gm of heroin from Champai district and the arrest of a Myanmar national.
