Aizawl: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Mizoram Police seized methamphetamine tablets valued at Rs. 6.17 crore during an operation near Aizawl and arrested two individuals suspected of smuggling the contraband from Myanmar.
According to a statement issued Wednesday by the state police, a CID (Special Branch) team launched a covert operation based on intelligence inputs and intercepted two vehicles along the Tuirial–Zemabawk stretch of National Highway 6, on the northeastern outskirts of Aizawl.
The vehicles, which were traveling from Champhai — a border town near Myanmar — were stopped near a Presbyterian church in Zemabawk.
Upon thorough inspection, officers discovered a total of 49 bundles of methamphetamine tablets concealed within the rear linings and dashboard beams of both vehicles.
The contraband weighed 47.5 kg, with 18.9 kg recovered from one vehicle and 28.5 kg from the other. Police estimate the street value of the seized narcotics at over Rs. 6.17 crore.
The two drivers, residents of the Vengthlang locality in Champhai district, were taken into custody and have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Both the seized vehicles and the drugs were handed over to the Special Narcotics Police Station in Aizawl for further investigation.
Methamphetamine, commonly known as meth, is a potent and highly addictive stimulant that affects the central nervous system.
Authorities suspect the drugs were trafficked across the porous Indo-Myanmar border, which remains a major route for cross-border narcotics smuggling in the region.
