AIZAWL: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma declared on January 6 that the state government is set to hand over the reins of Mizoram’s sole airport, Lengpui Airport, either to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) or the Adani Group for its further development and management.
Fresh from his visit to Kolkata, the Chief Minister emphasised the state’s commitment to enhancing its air travel infrastructure and attracting investments.
Lalduhoma revealed the government’s intention to facilitate the handover of Lengpui Airport during interactions with the media in Aizawl.
The decision aligns with Mizoram’s broader strategy for modernisation and improved connectivity.
Lengpui Airport, currently the only operational airport in the state, plays a pivotal role in connecting Mizoram to various parts of India.
Speaking about his recent meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi, Lalduhoma shed light on discussions surrounding the ongoing Assam-Mizoram border dispute.
Expressing a keen interest in resolving the issue through dialogue, the Chief Minister stated, “We no longer want violence at the inter-state border. All disputes should be settled through dialogue.”
The announcement of the airport handover coincides with Mizoram’s proactive efforts to foster peaceful resolutions to border disputes and facilitate economic growth.
Earlier, Lalduhoma, who concluded his three-day visit to New Delhi on January 5, met with the central leadership to discuss various pressing issues affecting Mizoram, including the challenges posed by refugees and internally displaced people from Myanmar, Bangladesh, and Manipur.
The national press reported that his discussions with central leaders revolved around the refugee crisis and the state’s financial challenges.
Recently, the newly elected Zoram People’s Movement government granted approval for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe state offenses to address the issue of corruption.
