AIZAWL: In a tribute to his contributions to sports and the promotion of taekwondo in Mizoram, Chief Minister Lalduhoma was conferred with an Honorary 7th Dan Black Belt.
The honour was bestowed upon the Chief Minister by the Mizoram Amateur Taekwondo Association (MATA), World Pro Taekwondo Hqrs, and World Taekwondo Hqrs, Kukkiwon.
Expressing his gratitude for the honour, Chief Minister Lalduhoma attributed the recognition to the outstanding achievements of MATA and Taekwondo athletes from Mizoram, who have consistently excelled and brought recognition to the sport in India.
He extended his best wishes for their continued success and future endeavours.
Officials from the Mizoram Amateur Taekwondo Association said that the award was in recognition of the Chief Minister’s dedicated efforts towards the development of sports in India.
The felicitation ceremony was graced by Grand Master Prof. Hee Do Kim (9th Dan Black belt) from World Taekwondo Hqrs, Kukkiwon, and Grand Master Lee Jae Ku (8th Dan Black belt), an international coach renowned for Poomsae and Kyorugi Taekwondo.
The two are in the state as dignitaries for the ongoing Mizoram Sports Conclave.
Earlier on Thursday, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Mizoram Sports Conclave 2024 aimed at enhancing the performance of Mizoram’s athletes for the 2036 Olympic Games.
Held at the Baptist Centre, the two-day conclave themed, “Vision 2036” aims to nurture young talents and increase the state’s representation at the upcoming Olympics.
In his inaugural address, Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced the state government’s commitment to adopt “Vision 2036 Olympics” as a state policy.
The conferral of the 7th Dan Black Belt, the highest honour in the discipline, to Lalduhoma follows the precedent set by former Chief Minister Lalthan Hawla, who received an Honorary 1st Dan Black Belt in 2012.
