Aizawl: The Aizawl bench of the Gauhati High Court has asked the contractor engaged in repairing the Sairang–Kawnpui section of National Highway 306/06 to file a detailed progress report on the project.
During a hearing on Friday, a division bench was reviewing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by the Mizoram Truck Drivers’ Association over the long-neglected condition of the key highway.
The court directed MSJ Infratech, the firm handling the work, to submit an affidavit outlining the current status and expected completion timeline by October 31.
The bench cautioned that if the report is not filed within the deadline, officials from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) would be required to appear before the court in person on November 6, the next date of hearing.

The PIL, filed in July, highlighted the poor state of the Sairang–Kawnpui stretch—part of the NH-306, also known as NH-06—which serves as Mizoram’s main supply route.
The petitioners said the road’s condition has deteriorated further during the monsoon, disrupting transport and endangering commuters.
The court’s direction comes amid growing public frustration over the lack of progress on the crucial lifeline connecting Mizoram to other parts of the country.
