AIZAWL: In the wake of incessant rainfall over the past four days, eighty-five families in two districts of Mizoram have been evacuated to safer locations. Low-lying areas across Lawngtlai district and its neighboring Lunglei are now submerged due to flooding. So far, no casualities have been reported from these districts.
Local media reports that forty families from Tlabung town, Lunglei district and nearby villages were relocated to schools, a community hall, and a trade facilitation center as the Khawthlangtuipui River swelled beyond its banks. The rising water levels have led to partial submergence of several houses in low-lying areas.
Rescue efforts are being carried out by officials and volunteers from the Young Mizo Association (YMA), a civil society organisation actively involved in relief operations.
Meanwhile, Chawngte town in Lawngtlai district witnessed the evacuation of at least forty-five families who were transferred to safer zones due to heavy flooding.
In Kamalanagar-IV area, some residential houses have been completely submerged under water. District authorities remain vigilant as they closely monitor the situation and coordinate rescue operations.
As the affected regions continue grappling with torrential downpours and subsequent aftermaths, the local administration is working tirelessly alongside dedicated volunteers to ensure safety for all residents.
