Aizawl: Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, Durga Das Uikey, highlighted the urgent need for further improvement in the education sector to achieve inclusive development across the country.

Speaking during his three-day visit to Mizoram, the minister underlined the pivotal role of education in bridging development gaps and fostering equality.

While assessing development initiatives under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Uikey visited the Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) in Tlangnuam, Aizawl, where he reviewed the institution’s facilities and interacted with stakeholders.

These schools, dedicated to enhancing education for tribal children, are central to the government’s push for inclusivity in education.

“Improvement in the education sector is crucial for ensuring inclusive growth and addressing the existing development disparities in the country,” Uikey stated. He lauded the efforts of educators at the EMRS, urging them to continue shaping the future of young minds and guiding students toward achieving their potential.

According to officials, the EMRS in Tlangnuam is nearing completion, with 95% of the construction work finalised.

The school is expected to become fully operational by March, providing quality education and modern facilities for tribal children in the region.

Uikey also announced plans to construct EMRS facilities in six villages across six districts of Mizoram, reflecting the government’s commitment to expanding access to education in tribal areas.

The Union Minister’s visit underscored the critical need for investments in education, particularly in tribal regions, to drive socio-economic progress.

Uikey departed for New Delhi on Thursday afternoon, concluding his review of Mizoram’s tribal development programmes.
