Aizawl: In a major crackdown on cross-border drug trafficking, officials of the Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Department seized over 15 kg of methamphetamine tablets worth more than Rs. 45 crore and arrested four persons, including two Myanmar nationals.
The first operation was conducted in the New Champhai region, where a department team intercepted two suspected traffickers and recovered 10.1 kg of methamphetamine tablets.
The accused were identified as Zamsianmanga (41) and Ronald Liana (26), both hailing from Myanmar’s Sagaing Division.
In a separate operation on the outskirts of Champhai town, another team intercepted a vehicle and discovered an additional 5.11 kg of the same narcotic substance.
Two Indian nationals — Sahanoor Alom (26) of Ranigram in Assam’s Sribhumi district and Golap Hussain (32) of Bagimara in Tripura’s Sepahijala district — were apprehended in connection with the seizure.
The vehicle, bearing an Assam registration number, was also confiscated.
All four accused have been booked under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and cases have been registered at Champhai Police Station, officials confirmed.

Authorities described the haul as part of a sustained crackdown on narcotics smuggling from Myanmar through Mizoram’s porous international border.
Champhai district, along with several others including Siaha, Lawngtlai, Hnahthial, Saitual, and Serchhip, has emerged as a key transit corridor for the illicit trade of synthetic drugs, arms, ammunition, and wildlife.
Methamphetamine tablets, locally known as Yaba or party pills, contain a mix of methamphetamine and caffeine and are banned in India for their high addictive potential.
Myanmar shares a 1,643-km unfenced border with four northeastern states — Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, and Nagaland — making the region vulnerable to trafficking networks operating from across the border.
