Aizawl: The Mizo National Front (MNF) has filed a formal complaint with the Election Commission against Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma and his adviser, accusing them of breaching the Model Code of Conduct ahead of the Dampa Assembly bypoll.
According to officials, the MNF’s legal cell submitted the complaint to the state joint chief electoral officer, Ethel Rothangpuii, on Friday, alleging that Lalduhoma violated poll norms by announcing a Rs. 700-crore water supply project for Dampa constituency and promising turmeric processing machines to local farmers during a campaign at Reiek village in Mamit district.
The party has also accused Dr. Lorrain Lalpekliana Chinzah, MLA and adviser to the chief minister, of conducting a free medical camp in the constituency after the code came into effect.
Election authorities have confirmed that the complaints are under examination.
The Dampa bypoll, scheduled for November 11, has drawn five contenders.

The ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) has nominated singer and preacher Vanlalsailova, while the MNF is fielding its senior vice-president and former health minister Dr. R. Lalthangliana.
The Congress has put up its vice-president and ex-transport minister John Rotluangliana, while the BJP’s candidate is Lalhmingthanga, a recent entrant to the party.
The People’s Conference has named its vice-president K. Zahmingthanga.
A total of 20,790 voters, including 10,185 women, are eligible to cast their votes in the bypoll. Counting will take place on November 14.
The election was necessitated following the death of MNF legislator Lalrintluanga Sailo in July this year.
