Aizawl: Tensions flared in Mizoram on Wednesday as opposition Congress workers clashed with police while attempting to march towards the state assembly.
The protest was sparked by Chief Minister Lalduhoma’s alleged “false accusations” against Congress legislator C. Ngunlianchunga during the ongoing budget session.
State Congress treasurer Dr. Lalmalsawma Nghaka claimed two party members were seriously injured in the scuffle and are receiving treatment at a private hospital.
However, police stated that minimal force was used to prevent protesters from breaching barricades, as demonstrations near the assembly are prohibited during sessions.
Hundreds of Congress supporters had gathered at Treasury Square near the assembly, demanding an apology from the Chief Minister.
Senior Congress leader and former legislator T.T. Zothansanga accused Lalduhoma of disrespecting the assembly’s decorum by making personal attacks against Ngunlianchunga.

The controversy stems from Lalduhoma’s statement during Monday’s question hour, where he alleged that the chief executive of the Lai Autonomous District Council was involved in corruption cases, with Ngunlianchunga as a prime accused.
He also suggested the Congress legislator seek anticipatory bail, claiming prosecution sanctions had been sought against him and 13 others.
Ngunlianchunga has denied the allegations, stating he has no reason to apply for anticipatory bail.
The confrontation highlights growing political tensions in the state as opposition leaders demand accountability and decorum in legislative proceedings.
