AIZAWL: With just five days to go for the Mizoram Assembly polls, the Congress experienced a setback in its campaign trail on Thursday after its leader Priyanka Gandhi Vandra cancelled her scheduled campaign trip to the state.
Scheduled to address a small gathering at Treasury Square in the state capital Aizawl, followed by a public meeting in Mamit district’s Kawrtethawveng, Vadra’s visit was called off due to “unavoidable reasons”, according to a senior Congress leader.
“Due to unavoidable reasons, Priyanka Gandhi’s visit stands cancelled,” a senior Congress leader told a national news agency.
Previously, the state Congress had announced of Vadra’s visit to the state on November 3.

The Congress is contesting all 40 seats in the upcoming elections, with the party holding four MLA seats in the current assembly. Rahul Gandhi had previously campaigned in the state on October 16 and 17 followed by Jairam Ramesh, a couple of days ago.
The Congress recently unveiled its 12-page manifesto for the Mizoram polls, focusing on transparent governance and promising to empower village councils and local bodies with increased responsibilities, power, and financial resources.

One of the central commitments is a health insurance coverage of Rs 15 lakh per family for cashless treatment at hospitals, targeting families without regular government employees and allocating Rs 5 crore annually for patients receiving treatment for terminal illnesses like cancer.
Moreover, recognising the potential of Mizoram’s youth, the party has plans to roll out a ‘young Mizo entrepreneurs programme’, with dedicated startup funding provisions, targeting the creation of 1 lakh jobs.
Polling for the Mizoram assembly is scheduled for November 7, with vote counting on December 3.
