In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Assam Rifles on June 19 recovered methamphetamine tablets worth approximately Rs. 10.43 crores and apprehended two individuals in the Pukpui area of Mizoram’s Lunglei district.
The seized drugs, along with the accused, have been handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Lunglei for further investigation and legal proceedings.
The arrested individuals, identified as Sapna Chakma and Punyasur Chakma, are alleged to be local operatives of the Parbattya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS), an organisation led by Santu Larma.
Sources indicate that the duo has links to PCJSS leader Bidhayak Chakma, suggesting a broader network facilitating the drug trade in the region.

In a separate operation on the same day, the Assam Rifles seized 63 cases of illegal ORIS cigarettes valued at Rs. 81 lakh in the Tlangsam area of Mizoram’s Champhai district.
The seized contraband and the individual involved have been handed over to the Champhai Police Department for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Preliminary investigations suggest the illegal cigarettes are also linked to the PCJSS, indicating the organisation’s potential involvement in multiple illicit activities across the region.
