Aizawl: In a major anti-narcotics operation, Assam Rifles personnel recovered a massive consignment of methamphetamine tablets valued at Rs. 112.40 crore from Mizoram’s Champhai district, near the Indo-Myanmar border, the paramilitary force said in a statement on Saturday.
The seizure was made during an area domination patrol on Friday at Zokhawthar village, a known transit point for cross-border smuggling.
Troops spotted two individuals carrying rucksacks near the Tiau River, which marks the boundary between India and Myanmar.
Upon intercepting the duo and inspecting their bags, the personnel discovered approximately 3.33 lakh tablets of methamphetamine.
However, the suspects managed to evade arrest by jumping into the river and fleeing across to Myanmar, the statement said.
According to Assam Rifles, the consignment was likely intended for distribution in Champhai town and surrounding areas.

Methamphetamine, a potent stimulant, is commonly abused for its ability to increase alertness and energy while reducing the need for sleep.
The seized narcotics were handed over to the Mizoram Police in Zokhawthar for further investigation and legal action.
This operation is part of ongoing efforts by Assam Rifles and law enforcement agencies to curb the influx of illegal drugs across the porous Indo-Myanmar border, which has emerged as a critical route for transnational narcotics trafficking.
