Aizawl: The Assam Regiment of the Indian Army commemorated its 84th Raising Day on Monday in Aizawl, Mizoram, honouring the legacy of its brave soldiers.
The ceremony, held at the War Memorial, witnessed tributes from dignitaries and ex-servicemen to those who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
Mizoram Governor General (Retd.) Vijay Kumar Singh led the tributes by laying a wreath at the memorial, joined by representatives of the Mizoram Ex-Services League (MESL), the Assam Regiment, and the Assam Rifles.
Their homage celebrated the regiment’s unparalleled service to the nation.
The occasion also featured an interactive session at the Assam Rifles (AR) Ground, highlighting the regiment’s distinguished history and its contributions to India’s defense.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Singh commended the Assam Regiment for its dedication and valour, urging them to continue their tradition of excellence and inspire the next generation to embrace values of sacrifice and patriotism.
Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) MLA and MESL president, Lt Col Clement Lalhmingthanga (Retd.), applauded the Assam Rifles for organising the event seamlessly.

He reiterated the significance of remembering the regiment’s contributions and fostering unity among its members.
Several prominent figures attended the event, including Assam Rifles DIG Brigadier Pushpendar Sorayan and Padma Shri awardee Hav. Lalbiakthanga, president of the World War II Veterans’ Association.
