Aizawl: As many as 11 murder cases have been registered in Mizoram’s Aizawl district since January this year, with investigations completed in 10 of them, a senior police officer said on Thursday.
Aizawl Superintendent of Police Zosangliana said a total of 1,764 criminal cases were recorded across police stations under the Aizawl District Executive Force between January and December 17.
Theft and burglary dominated the crime profile, accounting for 1,176 cases, or nearly 66 per cent of the total.
Police arrested around 2,000 offenders in connection with various crimes during the period, he said.

Of the total cases registered, investigations have been completed and charge sheets filed in 1,009 cases, while 421 cases remain under investigation. Another 333 cases are yet to be fully probed.
The SP said the district recorded a conviction rate of 91.7 per cent. Of the 11 murder cases registered this year, one case is still under investigation.
Zosangliana also said 32 cases were registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act in the district, leading to the arrest of 36 people in drug-related offences.
In addition, the district reported 158 cases of unnatural deaths during the same period.
These included 30 suicides, 36 deaths linked to drug overdose, 12 cases of drowning and 78 accidental deaths, the officer added.
