GUWAHATI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the latest entrant in Mizoram’s political theatre, unveiled its list of candidates for the upcoming Mizoram elections on Thursday.
Led by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the party is marking its debut in Mizoram’s electoral fray by fielding four candidates for the 40-seat state Assembly.
According to an official statement by the AAP, the party has nominated Andrew Lalaremkima, Vanlalmawia Vanchhawng, Joseph Biakthinaghlima, and Lalngiahawma Pachuau to represent them.
These candidates will contest from the constituencies of Aizawl North III, Aizawl West I, Aizawl West III, and Aizawl South I, respectively.
The political scene in Mizoram witnessed a surprise on October 16 when, during a press conference at the AAP headquarters in the national capital, the party’s Northeast in-charge, Rajesh Sharma, announced the party’s decision to venture into the “active politics” of the Northeast, starting with Mizoram.

Sharma laid bare the myriad challenges confronting the region, which includes inflation, unemployment, educational barriers, and healthcare shortfalls. He expressed the party’s commitment to nurture an expansive organisational outreach across the region.
Sharma took a staunch stand against corruption, nepotism, and the crumbling infrastructure that plagues the region. In his sharp critique, he targeted the BJP-led governments in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Manipur, slamming them for their alleged “divisive politics” and for sowing the seeds of community discord.

By evoking the success stories of AAP in Delhi and Punjab under Kejriwal’s leadership, Sharma voiced a resonant sentiment among the Northeastern populace – a longing for equivalent growth trajectories and transparent governance.
“If Delhi and Punjab have witnessed monumental change, the Northeast too deserves a similar metamorphosis. The people’s mandate is clear,” the AAP statement read.
