Aizawl: The Mizoram Police on Sunday arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly replacing the QR code of the filling station run by the state-owned Mizoram State Cooperative Marketing and Consumer’s Federation Ltd (MIZOFED) in Aizawl and receiving over Rs 2,000 through Google Pay.
The accused H. Lalrohlua, who hails from Lunglei’s Hrangchalkawn, was residing in Aizawl’s Armed Veng area.
Mizoram Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Lalbiakthanga Khiangte said a complaint was received from the manager of Mizofed’s petrol pump at Treasury Square reporting the QR code sticker used for customer transactions had been replaced by miscreants.
Based on the complaint, the police launched an investigation and picked up Lalrohlua on grounds of suspicion.
Police said H Lalrohlua was arrested within 24 hours of the commission of the crime.
His act was caught on the CCTV installed at the fuel station at Treasury Square, the heart of Aizawl city. The footage went viral on social media leading to his arrest.
His mobile phone was seized and police found that he received Rs 2,318 in three transactions through Gpay, out of which he paid Rs 890 to someone.

During sustained interrogation, Lalrohlua, who had no previous criminal record, admitted to have committed the crime.
The accused printed his Google Pay QR code and pasted it over the one displayed at the filling station.
