New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development Savitri Thakur will begin a three-day visit to Meghalaya on Tuesday to evaluate the implementation of key central schemes focused on women and children.
During her visit, Thakur will lead a high-level review meeting with officials from the state’s social welfare department, discussing the performance and outreach of flagship initiatives like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Poshan Abhiyaan, and Mission Shakti.
These discussions aim to enhance the effectiveness of these vital programs, according to an official statement.
As part of her itinerary, Thakur will meet with the Governor of Meghalaya and conduct a district-level review in East Khasi Hills, in alignment with the Union Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) guidelines.
These guidelines underscore the importance of close monitoring of welfare programs in the northeastern states.
On Wednesday, Thakur is set to visit key welfare institutions in Shillong, including the One Stop Center at Ganesh Das Hospital, Shakti Sadan at Mawroh, and a childcare institution in Mawkasiang.
These centres provide critical support to women and children facing challenges such as violence, abandonment, and neglect.
Her visit will also include an inspection of the community health centre and an Anganwadi centre in Mawsmai to assess their operations and impact.
Additionally, Thakur will evaluate the progress of rural development schemes, such as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G).
She will also tour the Aqua Park-cum-Visitor Information Centre at Khliehshnong and inspect roads constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
