SHILLONG: Riding on the crest of their maiden victory in the Lok Sabha elections from the Shillong constituency, the Voice of the People’s Party (VPP) has declared that the party is deliberating over its potential alignment with either the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) or the Opposition INDIA Bloc.
“We will discuss and make a decision on that. In New Delhi, our focus will be on pushing for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit in Meghalaya, Article 371, and other key points outlined in the VPP’s election manifesto,” asserted party president Ardent M. Basaiawmoit.
Highlighting the significance of voter wisdom, Basaiawmoit reiterated his party’s commitment to combating corruption, poverty, and bias.
Quoting the iconic words of Bob Marley’s Get Up, Stand Up, he asserted, “You can fool some people sometimes but you cannot fool all the people all the time.”
The recent electoral victory, termed as a referendum by Basaiawmoit, signified a loss of faith in the existing government. He urged leaders of the MDA 2.0 coalition to acknowledge the verdict and step down, assuming moral responsibility.

Meanwhile, newly-elected Shillong Lok Sabha member, Ricky AJ Syngkon, buoyed by his landslide victory over Congress stalwart Vincent H Pala, outlined his and VPP’s vision for Meghalaya’s rejuvenation.
“Our vision is to revive, restore, and transform Meghalaya. That is our commitment, and we will uphold it,” declared Syngkon, whose victory margin stood at a remarkable 3,71,910 votes.
Reflecting on the reasons behind his resounding win, Syngkon attributed it to the populace’s discontent with the prevailing political landscape, expressing a collective yearning for change.
“When we recognised the public’s disillusionment with current politics, a group of us decided to form a party, and the response from the people was overwhelming,” remarked Syngkon.
While acknowledging the VPP’s comprehensive 24-point manifesto, Syngkon indicated a prioritisation of key sectors for immediate action, underscoring the party’s dedication to addressing pressing concerns in Meghalaya.
