Shillong: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has proposed Dr Batskhem Myrboh, the party’s spokesperson, as its nominee for the forthcoming Lok Sabha bye-election from the Shillong Parliamentary constituency.
The by-poll was triggered following the untimely death of sitting Member of Parliament Dr Ricky A J Syngkon on February 19.
In a statement issued on March 2, 2026, party spokesperson Dr A W Rani said the VPP Election Committee had forwarded its recommendation to the State Executive Committee, suggesting Dr Myrboh’s name as the party’s candidate for the 1-Shillong Parliamentary Constituency.
The proposal now awaits formal approval from the State Executive Committee.
Earlier, on February 27, VPP president Basaiawmoit had expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in the bye-election.
While stating that the candidate’s name would be declared soon, he conveyed confidence in the party’s ability to retain the Shillong Lok Sabha seat, asserting that the leadership understood public sentiment in the constituency.
