SHILLONG: A violent clash erupted on Monday evening within the campus of North Eastern Hills University (NEHU) in Shillong, resulting in injuries to four students.
The incident that occurred around 10 pm, is reported to have involved students from two different communities within the university.
Circulated videos of the incident captured the chaos, with some videos showed students hurling stones, while others depicted acts of vandalism on cars parked near Hostel 19.
Notably, one of the damaged vehicles belonged to the in-charge of the Mawkynroh Police Outpost. Gates and windows were also reported to have been damaged during the confrontation.
The cause of the clash remains under investigation; however, early reports suggest that it may have been a result of tensions between two communities of university students.
In response to the escalating situation, the Mawkynroh Outpost police swiftly arrived at the hostel to control the situation. Their intervention helped bring the situation under control, preventing further violence and damage.
University authorities are now expected to initiate an inquiry into the incident to determine the underlying causes and take appropriate actions to prevent future conflicts on the NEHU campus.
