SHILLONG: C.H. Vijayashankar will be sworn in as the new Governor of Meghalaya on July 30 at Raj Bhavan in Shillong.
Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court, S. Vaidyanathan will administer the oath of office to Vijayashankar during a ceremony at 4:30 pm.
The ceremony will be attended by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, cabinet ministers and senior government officials.
Two-time Mysuru MP and former Karnataka minister C.H. Vijayashankar was appointed as the Governor of Meghalaya as part of a recent gubernatorial reshuffle announced by President Droupadi Murmu on July 27
He will be replacing outgoing Governor Phagu Chauhan. He took gubernatorial charge on February 18, 2023 ahead of the Meghalaya Assembly elections.
In 1994, Vijayashankar was first elected as an MLA in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. Four years later, he was elected as a Lok Sabha member from Mysore Lok Sabha constituency. He was re-elected in 20o4.
A seasoned politician from Karnataka, Vijayashankar brings extensive legislative experience to his new role.
