SHILLONG: The pioneering Pay Back Policy implemented by the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has yielded remarkable dividends.
In a statement released on August 12, the university stated that the unique reward system where the university reimburses the entire course fee of meritorious students is driving excellence in education as a noteworthy 64 students from USTM triumphed in competitive exams such as UGC & CSIR, National Eligibility Test (NET), and State Eligibility Test (SLET) in 2023.
Dr Trishna Thakuria, the Director of University NET Forum, shared that a remarkable sum of Rs 1.3 crore has been disbursed to former students as a reward for excelling under the Payback Policy.
She further unveiled the university’s comprehensive coaching and guidance facilities designed to prepare students for various prestigious competitions. She highlighted the intensive support offered to aspirants through USTM’s NET Forum, which has been in operation since 2017 and functions as a vital component of the university’s Centre for Competitive Examination.
Emphasising the rationale behind this innovative policy, Mahbubul Hoque, the Chancellor of USTM, underscored that the university’s intent is to foster competitiveness and motivation among students. Hoque asserted that USTM is unwavering in its commitment to ensure that financial constraints do not impede brilliant students from pursuing higher education.
In a gesture of congratulations and encouragement, Dr Azmol H Barbhuiya, the Academic Registrar of USTM, extolled the students’ accomplishments. He highlighted the university’s continuous track record of students excelling in national-level competitive exams and unveiled USTM’s vision to intensify efforts through the NET forum.
