Shillong: Union Minister of State for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Tourism Suresh Gopi on Tuesday visited South Garo Hills to review the implementation of government schemes and the functioning of various departments.
The review meeting was held at the New Circuit House conference hall, which was attended by Deputy Commissioner Sumit Kumar Singh, Superintendent of Police Shailendra Bamaniya, and other senior officials.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner apprised the Minister of ongoing and completed projects and drew attention to the connectivity and infrastructure challenges faced by the remote district.
The Union Minister expressed satisfaction with the district’s performance and underscored the need to further strengthen IT infrastructure and connectivity for holistic development.
He also proposed establishing a dedicated mental health clinic in the district to enhance healthcare services.

Later in the day, the minister visited an Anganwadi Centre at Dabit Ampangdam, inspected the Baghmara Civil Hospital, and interacted with students of Baghmara Government Higher Secondary School.
