Shillong: Authorities in Meghalaya’s North Garo Hills district have arrested two individuals for allegedly sharing anti-India content on social media platforms, police confirmed on Sunday.
The arrests were made in separate villages under the jurisdiction of the Bajengdoba police station.
According to officials, the individuals had posted a video on Facebook in which they were seen shouting slogans in the Garo language that were reportedly against India and in support of Pakistan.
“A case was registered following a First Information Report (FIR) filed by the district administration on May 15. Both individuals were taken into custody from their homes on Saturday,” a senior police officer from the district told reporters.
This incident follows a recent case in East Khasi Hills district, where another person was arrested for posting hate content online shortly after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
Authorities have reiterated that any online activity promoting hate speech or anti-national sentiments will be dealt with strictly under the law.
Meanwhile in Assam, police have arrested 65 individuals so far across the state for alleged anti-national activities following the Pahalgam attack on April 22.
