Shillong: On the eve of Republic Day, three police officers from Meghalaya were recognised for their exceptional service, receiving the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
The recipients are Sub Inspector Evel N Marak, Sub Inspector Tomol Ch Sangma, and Havildar Rajesh Thapa.
In total, 942 personnel from police, fire, and civil defence sectors have been awarded various gallantry and service medals this year, as announced in a government statement.
This includes 95 gallantry medals.
Among those honoured for gallantry, 28 individuals stationed in Left Wing Extremism-affected regions, 28 from Jammu and Kashmir, three from the Northeast, and 36 from other areas have been acknowledged for their heroic actions.
These individuals demonstrated bravery in saving lives and property, preventing crimes, or apprehending criminals, with their acts evaluated based on the risk involved relative to their duties.
The President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) was awarded to 101 personnel, with 85 recipients from the police force, five from fire services, seven from civil defence and home guard services, and four from correctional services.

This prestigious medal honours outstanding service records.
Additionally, 746 individuals received the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM), with 634 going to police personnel, 37 to fire service personnel, 39 to civil defence and home guard service members, and 36 to correctional staff.
This award recognises valuable contributions and dedicated service in various fields.
