SHILLONG: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Sarbanada Sonowal on Friday said that the sacrifice and valour of U Tirot Sing, the great freedom fighter from Meghalaya, should steer the ambitions of today’s youth towards nation-building.
Gracing the prestigious U Tirot Sing Best Student Award ceremony to felicitate and encourage academic luminaries in Meghalaya, the Union Minister spoke emphatically on the immense potential of the nation’s youth and the pivotal role they play in shaping India’s future.
“Under the profound blessings of U Tirot Sing, we come together today, inspired by his immense love and sacrifices for the country. Such tales of valour should steer our ambitions towards nation-building. Indeed, it is the ‘Yuva Shakti’ or youth power that stands as the primary force capable of turning India into a robust, prosperous nation,” he said after paying homage to the great freedom fighter after whom the prestigious award has been named.
Highlighting the crucial role of parents, students, and teachers in shaping an individual’s life, Sonowal stated that these are the foundational pillars of the academic ecosystem. “With all three pillars gathered here, I am confident this event will inspire collective effort for a brighter tomorrow. To achieve the dreams envisaged by our beloved Prime Minister, it is imperative for us to transform the vibrant Northeast into the new epicentre of economic growth,” he said.
Since its inception in 2016, the U Tirot Sing Best Students Award has been a beacon of encouragement for academic luminaries. Today’s ceremony also saw the presence of Alexander Laloo Hek, Minister of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary of Meghalaya, as the Guest of Honour. Dr. Kestonbel Manik Syiemlieh, Dy Syiem of Hima Nongkhlow and the fifth descendant of U Tirot Sing Syiem, also added to the grandeur of the occasion.
