SHILLONG: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been assembled by local authorities in East Jaintia Hills (EJH) following the shocking discovery of four dead bodies behind Umpleng market on Saturday.
Superintendent of Police, EJH, Giri Prasad confirmed to the local press that the formation of the SIT, highlighting the severity of the crime and the need for a thorough investigation into the alleged murders.
At the time of writing this report, one of the deceased has been identified as Ravi Rai, 23, hailing from Pastha Elam, Nepal.
The identities of the other victims are yet to be disclosed, pending further investigation.
Currently, the bodies have been transferred to Civil Hospital, Khliehriat, where post-mortem examinations will be conducted.
Earlier in the day, the bodies, discovered by workers in the area, were found with their hands tied with signs of multiple cut injuries, indicating a brutal and likely premeditated attack.
“The crime scene unit and mobile forensic crime scene unit were called in immediately to investigate the crime scene. The injuries appear to have been inflicted with sharp objects,” SP Prasad told the press.
Reports indicate that the murders either took place where the bodies were discovered or that the victims were moved to Umpleng after being killed.
Authorities remain vigilant as they continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding this tragic and disturbing incident, urging anyone with information to come forward to aid in the ongoing investigation.
