Shillong (Meghalaya): Shillong’s KC Lights, a school choir from Kiddies Corner Secondary School, has emerged as a symbol of musical excellence and pride, winning an impressive seven gold medals for India since its establishment in 2013.

Currently comprising 24 talented students, the choir operates under the dedicated guidance of Brian Wahlang, the school’s headmaster and choir director.

Wahlang, whose vision and leadership have been instrumental in shaping the group’s success, has transformed the choir into an internationally acclaimed ensemble, celebrated for its harmony, precision, and artistry.

KC Lights was initially formed as an extension of the school’s annual musicals, where the students’ enthusiasm for music and performance was evident.

Recognizing this passion, the school decided to create a dedicated platform for these budding vocalists, channelling their energy and talent into a structured choir.

Over the years, KC Lights has not only honed its craft but also garnered global recognition by participating in prestigious international choir competitions.

The choir has showcased its musical prowess in several countries, including Malaysia, Bali, Thailand, and Sri Lanka, earning accolades for their soulful renditions, technical brilliance, and stage presence.

The achievements of KC Lights highlight the choir’s commitment to excellence and the rigorous training they undergo.

Their success is a testament to the rich musical tradition of Meghalaya, a state renowned for its deep connection to music and the arts.

What makes KC Lights particularly inspiring is the choir’s ability to combine youthful energy with discipline and professionalism, qualities that have enabled them to compete at the highest level and bring laurels to the country.

Under Wahlang’s mentorship, the students have cultivated a strong foundation in musical techniques while also developing their confidence and teamwork skills.

Beyond competitions, the choir has become a source of inspiration for their peers and the local community.

Their story underscores the role of music as a unifying and empowering force, fostering creativity, teamwork, and cultural pride among the youth.

As KC Lights continues to rise on the international stage, they not only showcase the musical talent of their school but also shine a spotlight on India’s growing presence in global music competitions.

Their journey is a remarkable example of how passion, hard work, and visionary leadership can turn a small school choir into a beacon of success on the world stage.
