Shillong will impose traffic restrictions in and around Khyndailad, including Police Bazaar, on New Year’s Eve as part of arrangements to manage the expected surge in public gatherings.
Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said the entire Police Bazaar area will be declared a no-entry zone for vehicles from 5 pm on Wednesday to prevent congestion and ensure public safety.
He said the restrictions are being introduced in view of the heavy footfall anticipated during the celebrations.
As part of the traffic plan, vehicles approaching from Kachari Point will be diverted towards Raj Bhawan Junction, while traffic coming from Umsohsun Junction along GS Road will be rerouted via Boucher Road and Motphran.

Limited parking will be allowed along selected stretches on a single side of the road, including the stretch from Centenary Junction to Rap’s Mansion Junction and from Pinewood Junction to the Botanical Garden area.
The SP appealed to residents to plan their travel in advance and cooperate with traffic personnel deployed on duty.
He clarified that emergency service vehicles will be permitted and given necessary facilitation.
The Khyndailad area has been aesthetically illuminated since Christmas, and several parts of the city, including churches and major intersections, have been decorated, drawing large crowds in the run-up to the New Year celebrations.
