SHILLONG: In a significant breakthrough, the Meghalaya Police have apprehended two individuals, including a member of the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), in connection with the recent IED explosion that rocked Harijan Colony in Shillong.
Identified as Ebakordor Nongpluh (26) and Tarson Lymba (58), both residents of West Jaintia Hills, these individuals were nabbed by the law enforcement officers.
While Nongpluh was arrested from Shillong, Tarson was apprehended from Dawki during an operation on Sunday night.
The revelation of Tarson’s affiliation with the HNYF has raised eyebrows, shedding light on the potential involvement of the organisation in the nefarious act.
This development unfolded after HNYF leader Sadon Blah met with East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Rituraj Ravi, who disclosed Tarson’s connection to the organisation.

The detonation, which occurred around 10:30 pm on Saturday within an abandoned tin structure near the City Bus syndicate in Mawlonghat, prompted swift response from law enforcement agencies.
While the explosion caused damage to the tin structure and a few adjacent window panes, it also inflicted injuries upon Lakhan Singh, a resident of Harijan Colony.
Singh recounted the harrowing experience, describing how the blast caught him off guard while he was innocently disposing of garbage.
His injuries, including stitches on his feet, a broken finger, and neck trauma, underscore the severity of the incident.
Amidst ongoing discussions regarding the relocation of Harijan Colony residents, tensions have escalated in the wake of the explosion.
Gurjit Singh, Secretary of the Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC), highlighted the apprehension among residents following the relocation talks, further intensifying the atmosphere within the Colony.
As investigations continue into the motives behind the IED planting, authorities remain vigilant to prevent any further threats to public safety.
