Shillong: Meghalaya will host the Regional AI Impact Conference on December 3, with the state government partnering with the IndiaAI Mission under the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to organise the event at the State Convention Centre.
The conference, part of a nationwide series ahead of the India–AI Impact Summit 2026, will focus on the theme “AI for Citizens’ Empowerment: Smarter Governance, Better Lives.”
The IT & Communications Department is the nodal agency for the event, while IIM Shillong has been roped in as the knowledge partner.
Senior government representatives, global tech companies, academic institutions, startups and industry experts are expected to participate in discussions on the role of artificial intelligence in governance, climate resilience and building safer, more equitable communities.
The IndiaAI Mission team will also hold a dedicated session on the Centre’s AI initiatives.
Parallel activities in a showcase arena will provide space for demonstrations of AI solutions, innovation pitches, ideation sessions and networking among stakeholders.
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma will attend as chief guest and is expected to make key announcements outlining Meghalaya’s AI vision and its ambitions to emerge as a regional technology leader.
The event will also see the launch of the Bhashini Hackathon for Garo and Khasi languages, the MeghDEE programme, and the signing of MoUs for setting up a Data & AI Lab and for collaboration with MATH T-Hub.
Union Minister for Electronics and IT and senior officials from central ministries and northeastern states are likely to participate.
A roundtable between the Chief Minister and investors has been scheduled to position Meghalaya as an emerging digital and innovation hub for eastern India.

An exhibition showcasing AI and emerging technology initiatives by government bodies, industry partners and academic institutions will run alongside the conference.
Pravin Bakshi, Commissioner & Secretary of the IT & Communications Department, said pre-event awareness activities involving institutions such as IIM Shillong, NIT Meghalaya and NIELIT Shillong are already underway to engage students and build momentum ahead of the conference.
The event is expected to generate inputs and recommendations for the India–AI Impact Summit 2026.
