Shillong: A collaborative search operation involving Meghalaya Police, rescue teams, Home Guards, and local residents is underway to locate Hungarian tourist Puskas Zsolt, who has been missing since March 29.
According to police reports, Zsolt was last sighted near Mawkawir and Ramdait by locals.
The Hungarian Embassy filed a missing person report with local authorities on April 2.
East Khasi Hills SP, Vivek Syiem, revealed that Zsolt checked into a hotel in Laitumkhrah, Shillong, at around 3:45 am on March 29.
Later that morning, around 9 am, he left the hotel and hired a taxi that dropped him at Mawsahew, near Sohra.
Zsolt reportedly set off alone from there, carrying only a backpack, with plans to trek through Mawkawir to Nongriat.
Since his departure, no communication has been established with Zsolt.
In response, a coordinated search effort has been launched, utilising drones alongside ground teams to cover difficult terrain and remote areas.
“The search operation is ongoing,” the SP has informed, adding that Mawkawir Cave and trekking routes to Nongriat have been thoroughly combed.
However, no clues or traces of the missing tourist have been discovered so far.
Authorities continue to intensify their efforts, urging anyone with information about Zsolt’s whereabouts to come forward.
