Shillong: Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, currently on a private vacation in Meghalaya, has been thoroughly charmed by the state’s breathtaking landscapes, warm hospitality, and unique local cuisine.
Accompanied by his wife, daughter, and a close-knit group of friends, Tendulkar arrived in the hill state on Thursday and has since been exploring some of its most iconic destinations.
His itinerary included a visit to Sohra (Cherrapunji), famed for being the wettest place on earth, and Mawlynnong, often dubbed Asia’s cleanest village—both nestled in the East Khasi Hills.
According to officials, Tendulkar expressed admiration for the state’s pleasant climate, the simplicity of its people, and the region’s culinary richness.
In Mawlynnong, the former cricketer received a warm welcome, especially from enthusiastic young fans eager to catch a glimpse of their hero.
Mawlynnong, with its bamboo skywalks, manicured gardens, and traditional Khasi homes, continues to enchant visitors.
Tendulkar also explored the living root bridge of nearby Nohwet village—one of the area’s natural marvels.
During his stay, Tendulkar dined at the Shillong Marriott Hotel, where he was treated to a specially curated Garo cuisine meal by MasterChef India finalist Nambie Marak.
Overwhelmed by the experience, Marak shared a heartfelt post on Instagram, calling it a dream come true.
“Cooking for the legend, @sachintendulkar, was a surreal moment,” she wrote.
“I’ve grown up cheering for him, and meeting him in person was a moment I’ll never forget. He was so calm, kind, and even taught me how to take a better selfie!”

Tendulkar also enjoyed a private family picnic overlooking the scenic Umiam Lake, where he stayed at a resort tucked away in the hills.
He is expected to host a high tea with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma before heading to Assam’s Kaziranga National Park for the next leg of his vacation.
The cricket icon is slated to return to Mumbai on April 9.
