Shillong: A police complaint has been filed against a YouTuber and an astrologer for allegedly spreading false and inflammatory claims that tribal communities in Meghalaya continue to practice human sacrifice and cannibalism.

The complaint, lodged by social activist Enlang, led to a case being registered by the police, officials confirmed on Thursday.

Enlang has also approached the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST), urging action against both individuals for allegedly maligning indigenous communities.

The controversy stems from a YouTube video uploaded on June 13 by content creator Raghav Sharma, featuring astrologer Sushil Guru.

In the video, Guru reportedly claimed that human sacrifice and cannibalism are still practiced by tribals in Meghalaya—remarks that have sparked outrage and drawn widespread condemnation.

In his complaint, Enlang described the video as defamatory, factually baseless, and an incitement to communal hatred.

“The remarks are a gross cultural insult and an attempt to demonise an entire community,” he wrote.

The activist further alleged that the video, which has since gone viral, constitutes hate speech aimed at tarnishing the image of Scheduled Tribe communities in the state.

Enlang urged the NCST to take suo-motu cognisance of the issue and direct the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology as well as the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to remove the video and associated content from all platforms.

As of now, the NCST has not released an official statement regarding the petition or the incident.
